Jairus Keelon Byrd was born in San Diego on October 7th of 1986. Jairus finished his secondary education at Clayton High School in Missouri, where he moved with his parents Gill Sr. and Marilyn Byrd. Like his father, who went to the Pro Bowl twice during his career, Jairus wanted to play football. Under the direction of Coach Mike Musick, Jairus played quarterback, wide receiver, safety, and special teams for Clayton’s football team. During Jairus’ senior year he was named the Missouri 4A offensive player of the year and helped bring the team to the 2004 state championship. That same year, Jairus rushed 1,480 yards with 26 touchdowns, passed for 1,038 yards with 13 touchdowns, and made six receptions for 125 yards on offense. Jairus also had 71 tackles, seven interceptions, three sacks, and two fumble recoveries on defense.
