Bills safety Jairus Byrd helped seal a 19-16 victory over Arizona with a pair of interceptions on Sunday, and has been named the AFC Defensive Player of the Week for his efforts.
Byrd picked off Kevin Kolb in the fourth quarter, with Buffalo leading 16-13, and returned his overtime interception to the Arizona 6-yard line to set up the game-winning field goal. It marked his 16th career interception and the fourth multiple-pick game of his four-year career.
The Player of the Week honor is the first of Byrd’s career and the first for Buffalo since George Wilson in Week 5 of last season. Byrd was also named the NFL Rookie of the Month in October 2009.
With his two interceptions, Byrd moved past Billy Atkins (15) into 17th place on the team’s all-time list. The Oregon product is currently tied for the AFC lead with three interceptions this season.
